SMS Gateway Registration: From Sign-up to Your First SMS

SMS gateway registration has two parts in India: an account with us, and DLT registration of your business, sender header and templates with an operator. This guide walks through both, with the documents to keep ready, what you pay and where our team helps.

Step 1: Create your account

Open the sign-up page and create your account. Signing up is free. Use a business email address and a mobile number your team checks, because account and DLT messages go there.

There is no free trial. You start sending once your DLT setup is approved and you have added credits.

Step 2: Register on DLT

Every business that sends commercial SMS in India must register on an operator's DLT portal, such as Jio, Airtel, Vi or BSNL. You register once, and the registration is shared across all operators. There are three parts: your business as the Principal Entity, one or more 6-character headers such as KOVAIM, and a content template for each message, with {#var#} for the parts that change.

The operator charges about ₹5,900 a year for entity registration, including GST. Headers and templates are usually free. Approval usually takes 2 to 7 working days. Since December 2024 your DLT record must also declare the telemarketer chain that carries your SMS, and we give you the details to add.

  • PAN card of the business, or of the proprietor for a sole proprietorship
  • GST certificate, or other business proof such as a Udyam certificate, shop and establishment licence or incorporation certificate
  • Letter of authorisation on company letterhead, signed and stamped, naming the person who will manage DLT
  • Photo ID of the authorised person, such as Aadhaar, PAN or passport
  • A business email and mobile number for the portal's OTP checks

Step 3: Add your header and templates to the panel

Once the operator approves them, add your header and templates under your sender ID in the panel. The platform compares every message with these templates before it sends, so a message that matches none of them is stopped with a clear reason in your MIS report, instead of being rejected by the operator later.

Already registered on DLT through another provider? Share your entity ID, headers and template IDs, and we link them to your new account so you keep your approved setup.

Step 4: Add credits

Credits are prepaid. The smallest purchase is 5,000 SMS, which costs ₹1,000 plus GST at the Starter rate of ₹0.20. On the Business plan the rate is ₹0.15 per delivered SMS for up to 1,00,000 a month. Pay by NEFT, RTGS or UPI to the details shown on the top-up page of your panel, then raise a credit request with the payment proof. Our team checks it and adds the credits. Online payment gateways are not live yet.

SMS credits stay valid for one year from purchase, and if you renew before they expire, unused credits carry forward.

Step 5: Send from the panel or the API

To send without code, upload an Excel or CSV file in the panel, pick your header and template, and send now or schedule it. To send from your software, create an API key under API Management. A v2 API key is locked to approved IP addresses: the first IP that uses it is added for you, and you can add more, including CIDR ranges. Send a test to your own number first and check it in the MIS report.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is SMS gateway registration free?

Opening an account with us and creating API keys cost nothing. You pay for SMS credits, from a minimum of 5,000 SMS (₹1,000 plus GST at ₹0.20 each). DLT entity registration is charged by the operator, about ₹5,900 a year including GST, and our help with DLT has no service charge.

How long does registration take?

The account itself is quick to open. DLT approval of your entity, header and templates usually takes 2 to 7 working days on the operator portal. If you already have DLT approval with another provider, we link your existing IDs and you can usually start once credits are added.

Which documents do I need?

For DLT: the business PAN (or the proprietor's PAN), a GST certificate or other business proof such as Udyam or a shop licence, a signed letter of authorisation on letterhead, photo ID of the authorised person, and a business email and mobile number. The legal name must match exactly across all of them.

Can I register without GST?

Yes. DLT portals accept other business proof in place of a GST certificate, such as a Udyam certificate, a shop and establishment licence or an incorporation certificate. Our team checks your documents before you submit, which avoids most rejections.

How do I pay for SMS credits?

Pay by NEFT, RTGS or UPI to the account shown on the top-up page of your panel, then raise a credit request with the payment screenshot or PDF. Our team checks the payment and adds the credits, with a GST invoice for the recharge. Only pay into accounts shown in your panel or on an AvanceZone invoice.
