Quick answer

A transactional email service sends one-to-one emails that a customer's action triggers, such as an order receipt, an invoice PDF or a password reset. You call our email API with the recipient, subject and content or a saved template. We send it from your verified domain, report delivery, bounces and complaints to your webhook, and bill per email.

What counts as transactional email

A transactional email is one a person expects because of something they did. They placed an order, paid a bill, asked for a password reset or signed in from a new device. Each email goes to one person, carries information about their account and is usually needed within seconds.

Offers, newsletters and festival greetings are marketing email, even when they go to existing customers. Our platform keeps the two apart. You mark each send as transactional or marketing, and marketing emails automatically get a one-click unsubscribe header. Keeping receipts separate from promotions also protects them: if a campaign draws complaints, your invoices are not the ones that suffer.

  • Order confirmations, receipts and GST invoices
  • Login codes, sign-up confirmations and password resets
  • Payment due, payment received and subscription renewal notices
  • Shipping updates, booking confirmations and appointment details
  • Security alerts, such as a sign-in from a new device

How sending works

Your app sends one HTTPS request to the email API with your API key, the From address, the recipient, a subject and either HTML or a saved template ID with variables. The API replies at once with a message ID for each recipient, so you can store it against the order or user.

For invoices, attach the PDF in the same request. You can also schedule an email for later, up to 30 days ahead, and pass an idempotency key so a retried request never sends the same receipt twice. If you already send SMS with us, the same API key works for email.

Getting into the inbox, not spam

Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook check who is allowed to send for a domain before they accept an email. Before we switch email on for your account, you add your sending domain in the panel and publish the DNS records we show you. The platform checks SPF, DKIM and DMARC and re-checks them every day after that.

Emails must come from a domain you own, such as billing@yourcompany.in. Free addresses like Gmail cannot be used as the sender, because those providers do not let anyone else sign mail for them.

Hard bounces, spam complaints and unsubscribes go on a suppression list for your account. Later emails to those addresses are skipped and not charged, which keeps your bounce rate low and your domain's reputation clean.

Tracking every email

Each email moves through clear states: accepted, delivered, deferred, bounced, complained, failed or rejected. Set a webhook URL and we post each event to your server, signed with a shared secret so you can verify it came from us. Open and click events are available too, if you switch them on.

In the panel you can search messages by date, status or recipient and export reports as CSV. That is useful when a customer says they never got their invoice: you can see whether it was delivered, bounced or blocked by their mail server.

Email alongside SMS and WhatsApp

Many businesses send the same event on two channels. A bank sends the OTP by SMS and the monthly statement by email. A shop sends a short SMS when an order ships and the full GST invoice by email. You manage both from one account, with a separate email credit balance and one support team that knows both channels.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a transactional email service?

It is a service that sends automated one-to-one emails triggered by a customer's action, such as order confirmations, invoices, password resets and login codes. Your app sends each email through an API, and the service handles delivery, bounces and reporting. These emails are expected by the customer, so they are kept separate from marketing campaigns.

Can I send emails from my Gmail address?

No. Emails must come from a domain you own, such as orders@yourcompany.in. Gmail, Yahoo and similar providers publish DMARC rules that tell inboxes to reject mail claiming to be from their domains when it comes from other servers. Using your own domain also builds your own sender reputation.

Do I need to set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC?

Yes. You add your domain in the panel and publish the DNS records it shows you. The platform checks that SPF, DKIM and DMARC are in place before your domain can send, and keeps checking them every day. Our team helps if you are not sure where your DNS is managed.

How much does transactional email cost?

Email is billed per recipient from a separate email credit balance, and the rate depends on your monthly volume. Addresses on your suppression list are skipped and not charged, and credits come back if an email fails before it is sent. Share your volume and we will send a quote, plus 18% GST.

Can I attach invoices and receipts?

Yes. You can attach up to 10 files to an email, with each file up to 2 MB and 5 MB in total. Send them as base64 in the API request. Attachments work on sends to a small number of recipients, which suits invoices and statements that go to one customer at a time.

Do you offer SMTP relay?

Not at present. Email is sent through our REST API, which also gives you message IDs, scheduling and signed webhooks that SMTP cannot. Most frameworks and e-commerce platforms can call an HTTP API with a few lines of code. If your software can only send by SMTP, tell us what it is and we will suggest an option.
